So he said to Pandavs to spread the fault news about Aswathamma being dead on the battlefield in the hands of Pandavas.

Bhimasena is known for his nature of not saying lies, so Bheema decides to slave an elephant with the name of Aswathama on the battlefield, which is carrying king Indravarma.

Bhimasena took the life of both the king and elephant with a single stroke from his mace and charged into the battlefield towards Dronacharya while shouting the words "Aswathama is Dead" in a repeated manner so that the words can be heard by Dronacharya.
